why do you read?
i often think about the concept of blogging. "why do you blog?" is a frequently asked question online and i find myself wondering, "why do you read?" not necessarily my blog, but really any blog in general. time is precious and here you are spending it with me. i can truly appreciate that. so i ask, why do you read? what makes a great blog, a great blog? what types of things keep you coming back? what is one of your absolute favorite reads + why?

The blogs I take the time to read usually are ones that combine a creative person, with photograpy and a gift for the written word.
My top five besides yours are:
Ali Edwards(www.aliedwards.typepad.com/)
Bohemian Girl which I think you already may read)
La vie en rose which i know you read
Jen Gray(www.jengray.com)
Tara whitney(for the photography)
i agree with yolanda. the ones i read are honest, well-written, updated frequently and inspire me in some way to be a better me. reading a favorite blog is like visiting a favorite friend.
The blogs I prefer are ones that don't focus on any one thing in particular, for instance a craft/sewing/photography/food blog that is just that without anything else at all. I like to get a peek of the people behind them and their everyday lives.
I read different blogs for different reasons. Each is a unique place created by unique individuals..that I would otherwise not have met anywhere else but this bloggyland. I love the spontaneity of your blog...the photos...your honesty..
I read blogs, including yours because it gives me inspiration to create. It gives me extreme motivation and your blog specifically is a little piece of beauty that brightens my day!
Through reading other people's blogs, I have been given a glimpse into people's lives who are so diverse. So different than what I'm exposed to on a daily basis. Yet I see how we are so alike in some way (all artists, crafters, etc.) I have learned about cool products, designers, artists, and made a lot of really cool friends along the way. And it helps burn time at work...LOL (kidding!)
I have to echo most of the answers already given. It's a break, it's inspiration, it's a connection-knowing people are out there feeling just as awkward or just as happy or sad as everyone else. It's also somewhat of a voyeuristic guilty pleasure for me, I love the concept of keeping a diary, a craft blog, a gratitude journal and getting to read other people's is a gift that wasn't possible 20 years ago before the age of the internet.
I read for lots of reasons, I love the creative ideas about parenting, food, craft, and life that I've read. I love reading and connecting with people who are being real, I love looking at beautiful photos, and getting glimpses into peoples lifes.
I read because it fuels my imagination. It gives me hope that this dreamy life I have planned is out there and is obtainable. Many bloggers have it. In the meantime, it gives me energy and motivation to craft, cook, paint, dance and write my own blog to share my own crazy stories.
I agree with everyone here about why we read blogs. I like to read what's up with people who are crafty and have cool hobbies. I especially love people who have yummy food and post the recipes :P There's just something inspiring and relaxing about entering someone's blog world. Plus, you get to me very cool peeps (like you!).
My fav. blog is your blog because i love your pictures, creaions, ideas and the way you put words. (I get stuck when I try to type something on the top of my head) I check up on it like everyday. I like to see others ideas and creations. Makes me think how there are people out there like myself. I don't know many people I can relate in the actual world so bloging is a way to get to know others.
Hm, I think everyone is right. It inspires me, it makes me happy, it makes me feel not so alone, it relaxes me...and not many things do all that!! Keep the lovely blogging coming so we can enjoy it :)
I read you, because you take lovely photos, make great art, and you're my friend :)
Why do I read other blogs? SO I can try to one up everyone
Why do I blog?Because I want to win the popularity contest and make bucket loads of money from all my fabulous art that I sell.
LOL I don't know, other than I want everyone to like me :)
I like reading your blog (at the moment the only blog i visit) because it's a great mix of creativity, honesty, fun, inspiration and i can relate to most things you write, so thanks for that and never stop! :) ~x nienke
the layout of the blog is
the very first thing
that catches my eye.
the writing style.
the photos.
mainly i read for inspiration,
for things that make me think,
make me excited...
gardens, knitting, cooking,
music, scrapbooking, journalling,
toy making...
and for people's stories...
and community...if someone
cares enough to come to my
blog, i want to return the
favor. i like knowing
there are people out there
that think the same way i think,
that love what i love...
even if it feels sometimes
like there is no one in my town
that does...
:)
and i adore your blog.
its one of my has-to-be-checked daily
:)
(love the new masthead!) i read my favorite blogs because each one of them gives me a perspective i might not have had otherwise...someone elses beautiful point of view...it's so enriching and inspiring!

Blogs that are visually stimulating and exude creativity, I LOVE to visit. Yours being one of them Joleen.
What a good question - I love reading through everyone's responses! I first started reading blogs when I saw a link to keri smith's blog(www.kerismith.com/blog/). I love the diversity of blogs more than anything else - I love to see people making collages, softies, packages for mail swaps, self-portraits... it's really inspired me to explore my creativity in tons of different ways.
i love reading your blog because you are so creative & love all of your pictures...
But I guess I blog to vent, to show my latest creations, and have a little space on the www
As I discover more and more of these nifty little spots I realize there are more people out there who like beauty, creating, and sharing. The more the merrier.
my favorite blogs have some essence of creativity that inspires me, whether that be photography, artwork, excellent writing or at the very least a really great site design. And most importantly, my daily must read blogs keep it fresh and interesting.
What a great discussion, Joleen!
