porcupines??
Last night I was looking through my ephemera binder for inspiration. I stopped at a couple pages from an old recipe book sent to me by Marilyn a few weeks ago. I looked under the title "Meats" and saw this recipe. Ew. I have never heard of such a thing. I ripped it right on off the page and went to show Alex. We both had a little chuckle. But you know what? People actually eat this. Interesting.

I think I'll pass...
Thats just not right!!!!!
Ewww! What?
gasp! really?! hmmm...i guess they must be really soft and tender under all those quills...poor guys!
YIKES!!!
Okay....so I am aging myself, but I have had them, they are little meat balls with rice in them. The rice sticking out makes them look porcupinish....I guess when there were more stay at home mom's, like mine that they got bored and made all the recipies in the "Good Housekeeping" magazine. LOL
But I am really not THAT old!
We have porcupine meatballs on a regular basis! We use a tomato based sauce, but it is spiced up a bit and served with mashed potatoes. Yum!
I made these in school in home economics and totally loved them. A couple of months ago I had a craving for them again so I searched through all my Nan's old cook books till I found the recipe. They are totally delish and easy peasy to make. It would be lovely to have a whole recipe book done like that.
very funny... I love this.
hmmm,i do not know what my sister is talking about with her "yikes" comment because my mom used to make them often when we were kids and i remember liking them. They are basically just meatballs with rice in it and they stick out a little..i can'n believe she doesn't remember..that is funny though...brought back memories..
