{hiking}

hiking-i
Yesterday Alex and I took the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to the top of the mountain for some day hiking. Neither of us had been up there before and it felt like such a getaway. The temperature drops 30 degrees by the time the aerial tram hits the top and between that and the natural scenery, it's hard to believe we were in the desert heat just 11 minutes before. We walked the short tourist trail before eating lunch in one of their restaraunts. Then we got a day wilderness permit to hike the more strenuous trails. By this time it was nearing dark so we only went about a mile out before resting to enjoy our surroundings, and turning back. Next time we know to go earlier in the day and head straight for the wilderness park where there are less people (children). I can't wait to go back.

That is a great hike Joleen! I've backpacked it with a girlfriend, and we camped at Round Valley about 2.5 miles in, and then climbed to the top of San Jacinto the next day. It's an awesome valley with spectacular views, but if you go again and plan to hike further, make sure you bring lots of water as the altitude can really get you. Have fun! xo

What amazing photos! I have been up there a few times and love it as well. You should try to go when it snows too! They have cross country skiing up there! Funny though...Uncle Aaron and I were talking about it a week or so ago after watching a Huell Howser special :)
